When you make a reader account we keep two things: your name and your email address. They are stored securely, they are never sold to anyone, and we hold them only for as long as you want us to.
If you ask for the newsletter without making an account we keep your email address and the time you confirmed it, and nothing else. Every email has a link that removes you.
We count visits with Plausible. It sets no cookies and records nothing that identifies you.
We count how many times pages, partner listings and advertisements are seen, and how many times readers click through to a partner. These are totals for each day and nothing more: we set no tracking cookie, store nothing on your device for it, and keep no record of who you are, where you are or what you did. So that a reload is not counted twice, the server holds a scrambled form of your internet address in its memory for up to half an hour; it is never written down, and is forgotten after that. Because there is nothing about you in those numbers, there is nothing to ask your consent for.
Partners who join the directory or advertise with us give us the name of their organisation and the name and email address of the person who manages it, so that we can review what they send and tell them when it changes. We use them for nothing else.
If you send us a pitch, we keep your name, your email address and what you wrote, so that we can reply. Nobody outside the editorial team sees it, and we delete it if you ask.
